Leica Geosystems' RCD30 Penta Oblique
system is now available with new optics.
Compared to the previous configuration,
which consisted of lenses with 50 mm focal
length for nadir and 80 mm for oblique im-
ages, the camera is now available with 80
mm and 150 mm focal length respectively.
In combination with the new 80 MP
CCD sensor, the RCD30 now provides
data with even more detail. These new
features are said to make the RCD30
the only oblique system able to acquire
4-channel RGBN multispectral data with
10 centimetre Ground Sampling Distance
(GSD) from an altitude of 3,000 metres.
With these new optics, it is now
possible for users to make highly detailed
3D city models in areas that do not allow
capturing of aerial images at altitudes
under 3,000 metres.

Laser scan software
Euclideon has unveiled its latest software
for interpreting and streaming laser point
clouds, solidscan. Uniquely, it uses a 3D
carving technique to produce solid photo-
realistic point clouds with no holes.
Additionally, solidscan removes
moving objects and noise from laser
scanned data, leaving only static objects.
Reflective surfaces like whiteboards and
mirrors, can now be laser scanned with

laser-scanned data. It removes moving
objects, such as people walking past

Digitisation work-flow can also be
improved, as solid point cloud data means
no more clicking the wrong points by
accident during digitisation.
Users can also create realistic models for
historical preservation or display, scan golf
courses, race tracks and hotel rooms, for
example. 'Bubble view' products can also be
replaced, leaving behind the fundamental
limitations of 'bubble' or panoramic image
viewing products by looking at any part of
the scan at any time, with complete free-
dom of movement and measurement in 3D.
